Tanzania President Magufuli appoints 12 High Court Judges in bid to improve efficiency in judiciary

Dar es Salaam. President John Magufuli has appointed 12 new judges of the High Court of Tanzania as the government seeks to improve operations and efficiency of the judiciary.

In the appointments, announced by chief secretary John Kijazi, on Sunday, November 03, 2019, President Magufuli also appointed the labour commissioner and two Regional Administrative Secretaries (RAS).

During the live broadcast announcement, Mr Kijazi named the newly appointed High Court judges as Dr Zainabu Diwa Mango who served.

Prior to the appointment, she served as principal state attorney in the office of Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

He also appointed Mr Edwin Elias Kakolaki who, prior to the appointment, worked in office of the Drugs Control and Enforcement Authority (DCEA).

Other names newly appointed High Court judges and their former titles include: Dr Deo John Nangela (the Fair Competition Commission), Mr Fredrick Kapela Manyanda (DPP’s Office), Ms Elizabeth Mkwizu (Deputy Registrar at the Court of Appeal) and Mr Augustine Karichuba Rwizile (Deputy Registrar of the Judiciary).

The list also includes: Mr Ephery Sedekia (Attorney General’s Office), Mr Angaza Mwaipopo (President’s Office), Mr Joachim Charles and Mr Kassim Ngukali Robert (Financial Intelligence Unit in the Ministry of Finance and Planning), Mr Said Mashaka Kalunde (Attorney General’s Office) and Ms Angela Antony Bahati (Law Reform Commission (LRC).

In another development, Dr Magufuli appointed, Ms Aisha Amour as Tanzania’s ambassador to Kuwait.

Before the appointment, Ms Amour served as Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS) for Kilimanjaro Region.

According to Mr Kijazi, Colonel Francis Ronald Mbindi has been appointed new labour commissioner in the Prime Minister’s Office replacing Mr Gabriel Malata who was recently appointed Deputy Solicitor General (DSG).

He said Ms Katerina Tengia Revocati was also appointed the new RAS to replace Mr Charles Edward Kicheere who has been named Tanzania’s new Controller and Auditor General (CAG).

Before the appointment, she worked as the Chief Registrar (CR) of the Tanzania High Court.

Mr Kijazi said the appointees, along with chairman and the deputy chairman for the Commission for Human Rights and Good Governance (CHRGG) who were appointed recently, will be sworn in tomorrow, November 4, 2019.
