Huawei donates ICT lab to Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology

Dar es Salaam. Technologies company, Huawei Tanzania has donated laboratory to the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT) with the aim of sparking innovative minds in Tanzania and to improve the Information Communication Technology (ICT) sector.

The lab is fixed with advanced equipment that can help learners to focus on doing real practical and later can self-employed rather than waiting to be employed by either by the government or private sector.

In a statement released by Huawei communication department on Thursday, December 12, the handover ceremony was witnessed by deputy Minister of Works, Transport and Communication Elias Kwandikwa and Huawei Tanzania chief executive officer Mr Frank Zhou.    

According to the company a partnership signed in 2015 culminated in the existing cooperation between DIT and Huawei, the two continue to share a mutual bond centering of ICT and together they are set to improve the industry in Tanzania.

According to the company, it is of great importance to train and research constantly in order to develop better talents and better solutions.

This is the reasoning behind donating the first laboratory to the college complete with equipment that will spark the innovative minds of the youth in Tanzania. 

“We’ve seen this evidently when Tanzania won the 1st prize in the 2018/2019 ICT competition when competing with fellow university students from the sub Saharan region,” reads part of the statement 

Speaking at the event director of India-Tanzania Centre of Excellency in ICT Dr Kennedy Greyson said the efforts help shape the Tanzanian youth’s talents in today’s ICT Industry not only in Africa but on the global stage. 

“These efforts have certainly shown an elaborate attempt by Huawei to boost ICT awareness as part of the development of Tanzania,” he said.
