The Centre for Entrepreneurship and Executive Development (CEED), invited local entrepreneurs in Dodoma for a workshop on managing and effectively growing their businesses in their region.
Speaking to journalists, CEED Tanzania Representative, Fred Laiser, said the seminar was to provide them with skills on how to improve their business, compete for opportunities, connect and network with a community of entrepreneurs.
''The main goal of CEED Tanzania is to help entrepreneurs in the country to positively grow and develop their business. We are in Dodoma today intending to provide entrepreneurs with education, business opportunities and also to create a community of entrepreneurs that connect and learn how to tackle several challenges.'' Mr. Laiser said.
Along with the presentation from CEED on the business life cycle, two successful entrepreneurs were invited to share their experience on the opportunities and challenges they experienced while building their businesses. Mr. Archard Kato, Managing Director of Alko Vintages Company Limited, advised the participants about how changes and challenges in business will always exist for entrepreneurs
'' I congratulate CEED Tanzania for giving us this opportunity to learn and meet with our fellow entrepreneurs. The challenge many of us entrepreneurs face in Tanzania is that we like to be self-employed but we do not strive to be businessmen and women”. Mr Kato continued, “We need to be in a position where we are always learning and trying to be our best until we are at a point where our businesses can run by themselves”.
Ms. Elizabeth Swai, Founder and Managing Director of AKM Glitters Limited, an integrated poultry business, shared her journey as a mid-size business owner in a sector that is dominated by men. She pressed the participants on the importance of constantly looking for ways to improve themselves. “Technology has now made it possible for people to access information quickly. We have to do research, learn and get informed from the right sources and not hearsay”.
Both speakers showed a lot of passion and understanding of the importance to always keep learning and advocated for a better reading and learning culture if true success is to be achieved. The presenters also reiterated the importance of building a community within which they can interact and find ways to move their businesses forward.
