Dar es Salaam. Airtel Africa has signed a multi-year, multi-million-dollar partnership with Xtelify, the digital subsidiary of Bharti Airtel India, to accelerate its digital transformation across 14 African countries.
Xtelify, which manages all of Airtel’s digital assets, has introduced an AI-powered platform designed to simplify telecom operations, enhance customer experience, reduce churn, and raise average revenue per user (ARPU).
A statement from Airtel Africa said on Wednesday that the Xtelify platform features a converged data engine for insights, a workforce tool for real-time task management, and a customer experience system to manage end-to-end journeys.
Under the agreement, Airtel Africa will deploy three of Xtelify’s flagship tools—Data Engine, Work, and IQ. These platforms will provide its 150,000-strong field team with market intelligence for targeted strategies and enable features like spam and fraud protection. The IQ platform will allow secure, real-time, omnichannel customer engagement.
“This partnership marks a transformative leap in our mission to build Africa’s digital future,” said Jacques Barkhuizen, Airtel Africa’s Group Chief Information Officer. “It’s Airtel leveraging Airtel—a synergy that simplifies operations and delivers hyper-personalised services.”
Binod Srivastava, Chief Business Officer – Global Business at Bharti Airtel, said the partnership would help tackle industry challenges like spam and fraud, while setting new benchmarks for customer protection and service.
Xtelify also launched a sovereign, telco-grade cloud platform known as Airtel Cloud, initially developed for Airtel India’s internal use. It can handle up to 140 crore (1.4 billion) transactions per minute and is now being offered to businesses. Hosted on sustainable next-generation data centres and supported by 300 certified cloud experts, the platform offers Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), and advanced connectivity.
With AI-based provisioning, secure migration, and no vendor lock-in, Airtel Cloud promises cost efficiency and scalability.
The partnership positions Airtel Africa to enhance service delivery, protect customers, and drive innovation in one of the world’s fastest-growing telecom markets.
