Dar bourse market cap improves

Share price gains among cross-listed equities enabled the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange’s market capitalisation to jump.

Dar es Salaam. The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) started the week strongly as its total market capitalisation climbed to Sh20.42 trillion on Monday from Sh20.25 trillion on Friday last week.

An improved market capitalisation resulted from share price gains among cross-listed companies.

Acacia share prices rose to Sh4,620 on Monday from Sh4,540 on Friday while those of East African Breweries Ltd increased to Sh4,280 from Sh4,060.

The increase in share prices for cross-listed equities also led to a rise in the DSE All Share Index (DSEI) to 2,118.47 points on Monday from 2,100.34 points on Friday. The level of the Tanzania Share Index (TSI), which measures the performance of locally listed firms, has remained at 3,836.35 points.

Market reports indicated that the DSE total turnover rose to Sh320.39 million on Monday from Sh136.99 million on Friday last week.

Foreign investors injected Sh319.25 million through buying shares. The amount accounted for 99.64 per cent of the value of purchases. Local investors injected only 0.36 per cent of the buying value.

The market reports show that foreign investors floated 93.64 per cent of all shares while locals sold only 6.39 per cent of shares.

TBL was a top trading counter, with a turnover of Sh319.29 million after transacting 25,603 shares at a weighted average price of Sh12,500 per share in five deals.

Other active counters on Monday were National Investments Companies, DSE Plc, Tanzania Portland Cement Company and CRDB Bank Plc.
