Dar es Salaam. Tigo subscribers in Dar es Salaam will now be able to enjoy the fastest internet connection as the company has expanded its 4G LTE service to cover the entire city.
The 4G LTE technology is about five times faster than the 3G technology currently available in the market, general manager Diego Gutierrez said in the city yesterday.
The expansion follows a successful pilot phase at the city’s Mlimani City and Masaki peninsula where the company introduced the services in April this year, according to Mr Gutierrez.
He said by making 4G service available throughout the city “Tigo once again demonstrates its commitment to promoting digital lifestyle transformation and its leadership in delivering cutting edge technology and innovation in this market.” The 4G LTE network means faster speed to surf and download content from the internet and make Skype calls.
It also significantly enhances the customer experience for video streaming or conferencing. It can also accommodate more applications such as video conferencing, high definition content, video blogs, interactive games and video downloads on social networking sites.
“This expansion means that Tigo customers in Kinondoni, Ilala and Temeke districts who reside in places such as Upanga, Posta, Tegeta, Mbagala, Tabata, Kimara, Mbezi, Ukonga, Salasala, Mikocheni, Msasani, Sinza are now assured of higher-quality services and access to the fastest internet experience,” Mr Gutierrez said.
The service will be extended to Arusha, Dodoma, Morogoro, Moshi, Mwanza and Tanga next month.
Meanwhile, Tigo and UhuruOne have announced a new kind of partnership that creates one of Africa’s first ever Data Virtual Network Operators (DVNO), allowing UhuruOne to expand its wireless broadband data service nationwide alongside Tigo’s new 4G mobile network rollout.
The DVNO means that UhuruOne will share both capacity and network resources with Tigo’s 4G LTE data network enabling its customers to use their data enabled devices to access super-fast 4G speed.
