Dar es Salaam. First National Bank (FNB) Tanzania yesterday launched a new campaign to promote a savings culture among Tanzanians.

The campaign is known as ‘Million a Month Award” (Mama) and it targets existing and new savings accounts customers, the bank has said.

The Mama campaign includes a cash prize of Sh10 million each month to 10 winners and will see a total of Sh30 million awarded to customers over the course of three months starting June 2016.

The FNB Tanzania head of Products and Digital Banking, Mr Silvest Arumasi, said new and existing customers will receive an automatic entry into the draw for every Sh50,000 they deposit, so the more the customers save the better their chances of winning the prize. There will be prizes every month for the duration of the three-month campaign which is open to all individuals.

“Every month we will have one draw and select 10 winners from our client base whereby all ten winners will each receive Sh1 million cash prize.”

Mr Arumasi said the campaign had opened a window for Tanzanians to build personal financial security. It also offers financial management opportunities to encourage people to develop a healthy savings culture.

“Through this campaign we want to encourage a culture of saving amongst our customers. The saved cash could be invested in their future economic undertakings. It can also assist them in case of emergencies,” he said.
