Dar es Salaam. The Small Industries Development Organisation (Sido) said yesterday that President John Magufuli’s new push to create an industrialised Tanzania will simplify the implementation of its ‘One District One Product (ODOP) strategy.

Launched a few years back, the ODOP strategy seeks to promote one cash crop in each district in Mainland Tanzania.

Sido director general Omar Bakari said here yesterday that with the industrialisation agenda high on the fifth phase administration’s national development strategy, implementation of the ODOP would be easy.

“Industrialising Tanzania is everybody’s responsibility. Fortunately, the government has been improving the environment for developing and starting new industries…..owners of industries and prospective ones have the responsibility to support the government’s plan by adhering to norms, regulations and procedures for starting and operating industries to produce goods that can competitive in local and international market,” he said.

Sido, he said, will play its role by providing the needed expertise.

“We have expertise at institutional level and from partners in various areas of industrial development,” he assured.

To implement the plan, he said, Sido is going to concentrate on establishing small and middle industries at district level all over the country by using available raw materials found in those districts.

He said the plan will serve many purposes such as improving value addition processes, employment generation which are crucial for any industrial economic base nation.

He urged various leaders and citizens at district level to work hand in hand with Sido to make sure the initiative succeeds for the benefit of all stakeholders and country at large. (Related photo on page 24)
