  • Marioo’s dominance has been solidified through Spotify Wrapped 2024, the annual report that showcases the most-streamed artistes and songs worldwide.

Dar es Salaam. The Tanzanian music scene is buzzing with excitement as Omary Mwanga, famously known as Marioo, dominates the charts, dethroning Bongo Flava heavyweights Diamond Platnumz and Harmonize.

Marioo’s dominance has been solidified through Spotify Wrapped 2024, the annual report that showcases the most-streamed artistes and songs worldwide.

For Tanzanians, 2024 also belongs to Marioo. His hit “Hakuna Matata” has become the anthem of the year, earning the top spot as the most-streamed local track on Spotify.

The infectious tune has captured hearts, becoming a favourite at parties, on TikTok, and across social media.

It leads a list of Tanzanian favourites that includes Diamond Platnumz’s “Mapozi” featuring Mr Blue and Jay Melody, and “Komasava,” Jaivah’s “Buruda,” and Zuchu’s “Zawadi.”

But Marioo didn’t stop there. On the overall list of most-streamed artistes in Tanzania, he ranks second, outshined only by global superstar Chris Brown.

Diamond Platnumz and Harmonize, two of Tanzania’s most celebrated musicians, come in third and fourth, respectively.

The list also features international giants like Drake, Asake, Ayra Starr, Burna Boy, and Davido, with Alikiba rounding out the top ten.

Marioo’s achievements extend beyond singles. His album “The Kid You Know” has also claimed the crown as the most-streamed local album of 2024, showcasing his range and cementing his position as a trailblazer in Bongo Flava.

The album beat strong competition, including Harmonize’s “Visit Bongo” and “Made For Us,” Jay Melody’s “Therapy,” and Navy Kenzo’s “Most People Want This.”

This milestone marks a turning point in Tanzania’s music industry.

Marioo’s ascent signals a shift in the Bongo Flava hierarchy, proving that fresh talent with the right strategy can rival even the most established stars.

His success is a testament to his artistry, hard work, and the growing power of digital platforms like Spotify in shaping the music scene.

Marioo has cemented his place as a leading force in Tanzanian music, and his star is only getting brighter.
