New festival FuTopia to launch in Zanzibar this August

What you need to know:

  • Positioned as a festival of the future, FuTopia aims to transform everyday spaces into vibrant cultural zones that bring together music, art, food, fashion, sports, and technology.

Busara Promotions, the team behind the long-running Sauti za Busara festival, has announced a new addition to Zanzibar’s cultural calendar.

FuTopia, a three-day urban festival celebrating creativity, sustainability, and innovation, is set to take place from August 29 to 31, 2025, in Fumba Town.

Positioned as a festival of the future, FuTopia aims to transform everyday spaces into vibrant cultural zones that bring together music, art, food, fashion, sports, and technology.

The event represents Busara Promotions’ expansion beyond music.

“FuTopia is where we reimagine our daily spaces into vibrant hubs of creativity and connection,” organisers said in a statement.

“We want to inspire a new way of living—one that’s inclusive, sustainable, and deeply expressive.”

Programming will run in two distinct rhythms. During the day, festivalgoers can expect a lively, community-driven atmosphere featuring open mic sessions, spoken word performances, talent shows, sports competitions, children’s play zones, and neighbourhood feasts.

As night falls, FuTopia will shift into a high-energy experience with curated live concerts, DJ sets, and multimedia performances from a diverse lineup of artistes across Africa and beyond.

The festival will also include interactive workshops, DIY innovation labs, and creative showcases, with an emphasis on upcycled fashion and environmentally conscious design.
