The accident took place around 8pm at the junction of Msimbazi and Uhuru streets.

“We have established that the man who was hit was disabled, and the cause of the accident was speeding,” Ilala Regional Police Commander Lucas Mkondya told The Citizen.

He said the man’s body was broken into several pieces after he was hit. “The police had to collect several broken body parts,” the RPC said.

He accused the driver of speeding while he was approaching the junction.

Witnesses told The Citizen the driver was trying to avoid hitting a motorcycle (boda-boda) that had encroached onto a lane reserved for rapid transit buses.
