President Mwinyi awards Five-Star Yanga Sh100m for successful league season

Dar es Salaam. Zanzibar President and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has awarded Young Africans SC (Yanga) a cash prize of Sh100 million in recognition of their extraordinary achievements during the 2024/2025 football season.
President Mwinyi presented the award on June 30, 2025, at the Zanzibar State House, where he hosted Yanga players and officials.
The team visited State House to present the five prestigious trophies they secured across multiple competitions this season.
In his remarks, President Mwinyi congratulated Yanga for their remarkable success, noting that their accomplishments have brought national pride and contributed significantly to the history of Tanzanian sports.

He praised the club’s consistency and commitment, emphasizing that their achievements have elevated Tanzania’s sporting reputation at both national and international levels.
President Mwinyi also applauded Yanga’s contribution to promoting Zanzibar, especially through their active role in the "Visit Zanzibar" campaign.
He highlighted that by staging several official matches on the islands, the club had positively impacted the local economy and tourism, attracting more visitors and creating broader opportunities for residents.
He reaffirmed the government's dedication to enhancing sports infrastructure across the islands, saying this would help position Zanzibar as a preferred host for national and international sporting events.
During the ceremony, Yanga President Hersi Said expressed his gratitude for the support shown by President Mwinyi.
As a token of appreciation, he presented the President with a commemorative medal and the club’s official championship jersey from the NBC Premier League title.
Hersi commended Dr Mwinyi’s continued efforts in improving sports facilities and infrastructure.
He pledged that Yanga would remain committed to playing matches in Zanzibar, strengthening ties and supporting local sports development. He further encouraged other sports clubs to follow suit and invest in Zanzibar’s growing sports ecosystem.
Yanga SC capped off a phenomenal season by winning five major trophies: the Toyota Cup (held in South Africa), the Community Shield, the Union Cup (Kombe la Muungano), the NBC Premier League title, and the CRDB Federation Cup.
President Mwinyi’s recognition of Yanga SC not only celebrates their season of dominance but also signals a new era of collaboration between top-tier football and regional development through sports diplomacy.
