Dar es Salaam. Tanzanian journalist Abubakari Mussa is among  31 finalists nominated for the 2015 CNN Africa Journalist Awards  making for the continuous low participation of Tanzania journos in the renowned awards.

Mr Mussa who is a photographer based in Mwanza, works for Mtanzania newspaper, was also the winner of the 2015 MCT’s Excellence in Journalism Awards Tanzania.

“The photo that won the MCT prize was the same one that has gotten me nominated for CNN. I took  the photo  during the floods in Mwanza in December 2014 and it shows an infant being rescued by the police together with her mother and other women, the police carried the baby and walked with him on the corrugated iron sheet roof when their house was flooded.” said Mr Mussa.

He urged fellow journalist in the country take courage to send their works to various prestigious awards.

“It feels bad every time we see few of us in the finals while other countries are shining,” he added.
