351 girls circumcised in Tarime town council

Speaking at a launch of a film to educate the communities on the effects of the vice, the Acting Tarime town council community development officer, Ms Adventina Mujemula, said the number was 127 less that 2013/2014.
Despite efforts by the government and humans rights organisations to curb Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), over 350 girls have undergone circumcision in Tarime between 2014 and 2015, a top official has revealed.
Speaking at a film launch to educate communities on FMG, acting Tarime town council community development officer, Ms Adventina Mujemula, said the number was 127 less that in 2013/2014.
The film was produced by Children’s Dignity Forum (Cdf) in collaboration with the UK based African women charity FORWARD.
An attending official from Cdf Ms Sophia Temba said the film aimed to eliminate FGM in Tarime district as well as Tanzania in general.
She said that they decided to feature a true story of two girls from Tarime who managed to escape circumcision to show the power of individuals in combating harmful practices.
