Airtel Tanzania to issue Sh3.9 billion in dividends

Dar es Salaam. Airtel Tanzania will disburse Sh3.95 billion to its mobile money customers across the country as dividend for using the service, the company said.

The money is a dividend for the period from July to December 2023, targeting the users and agents who have utilised Airtel Money services during the six months.

The interest disbursements is calculated based on the balance in the Airtel Money wallets/accounts at the end of each day.

Since the inception of Airtel Money interest initiative in 2015, the company has distributed a total of Sh52 billion to customers and agents countrywide, it said in a statement.

"Airtel Tanzania remains steadfast in its mission to provide accessible, reliable and affordable money services to its customers while at the same time rewarding them for using mobile money services,” the company stated.

“The services are undeniably important and cuts across all segments and all walks of lives for both rural and urban areas," said the company’s Airtel Money director, Mr Andrew Rugamba.

"We will continue to expand our agent network to ensure that Airtel Money services are readily available to the majority of the population," he added.

The company has over 4,000 Airtel Money branches and comprises over 250,000 agents nationwide. Airtel Money is also integrated with various payment platforms, including e-government, allowing customers to make multiple government payments and is connected to over 40 banks in the country.
