Dar es Salaam. Bayport Tanzania has planted 600 trees at Muhimbili National Hospital – Mloganzila, as well as at Mloganzila A and B Primary Schools and Mloganzila Secondary School, in an initiative that aligns with the company’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy to support a cleaner, greener future for Tanzania.
At Muhimbili Mloganzila Hospital, 300 shade trees were planted to help create a fresher and healthier environment for patients visiting the referral facility.
Meanwhile, Mloganzila Primary and Secondary Schools, which together serve over 1,000 pupils and students, received 300 fruit trees, including mango trees, to enhance both the environment and nutrition for the school communities.
Bayport’s Chief Operating Officer, Ndringo Materu, highlighted the company’s ongoing sustainability commitment during the event.
“In 2019, we transitioned our loan origination process from paper-based to digital, significantly reducing paper usage and waste. As part of our commitment to a sustainable future, Bayport has pledged to plant one million trees across Tanzania. Planting 600 trees in Mloganzila today is another step forward in achieving this goal,” Materu said.
Speaking at the same event, Dr. Julieth Magand, Deputy Managing Director of Mloganzila Referral Hospital, praised Bayport’s environmental efforts.
“We appreciate Bayport’s dedication to global environmental initiatives. Planting trees is not just about the act—it’s about ensuring they thrive, providing shelter, preventing environmental degradation, and supporting the local ecosystem,” Dr. Magand noted.
She further expressed gratitude to Bayport for organizing and coordinating the planting exercise

Mloganzila A Primary School Head teacher Jackson Masasi joined by part of his pupils take part in watering one of the 600 trees donated by Bayport Financial Services Mloganzila referral hospital, Mloganzila A and B Primary Schools and Mloganzila Secondary School.
“I extend my heartfelt thanks to Bayport Financial Services for choosing Mloganzila Referral Hospital for this exercise. We all understand that trees convert carbon dioxide and water into oxygen. In addition, trees are a source of rainfall and food, including fruits. When well taken care of, these trees will benefit both current and future generations.”
Baraka Joseph, a Standard Six pupil at Mloganzila A Primary School, also commended Bayport for selecting his school for the initiative.
“There are so many public schools around us, but you decided to choose our school for this exercise. This shows the love you have for our school. We promise to take care of these trees as a sign of appreciation,” he said.
Baraka added that while Mloganzila A Primary School already had many shade trees, they were excited that Bayport provided fruit trees, which would not only offer shade but also contribute to students’ nutrition.
