What you need to know:
The order from the Head of State comes barely a few weeks before he ends his 10-year tenure in office. The people will now have not to worry about being evicted
Dodoma. Residents of Makulu Ward on the road leadig to the University of Dodoma (Udom) can now sleep peacefully after President Jakaya Kikwete yesterday directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) not to relocate them.
President Kikwete gave the directive here when inaugurating three new buildings that will house the Bank of Tanzania (BoT), offices of the Controller and Auditor General (CAG) and the Treasury.
He said it was important for CDA to ensure that land allocation would ensure having beautiful views, including having recreation gardens and similar facilities.
“I do not expect to see you allocating these plots on my left to individuals for development. At the same time, don’t relocate wananchi on the pretext that the President made the order. If you dare do so, you’ll be disturbing the situation,” he said.
He said the people residing in the area should be left to sell their plots to potential buyers in prices they would agree.
However, he said anyone who would buy the plots in the area should be instructed to put up a multi-storey building with the aim of making the area attractive.
Welcoming President Kikwete, Finance minister Saada Mkuya said completion of the buildings will smoothen delivery of services in the central zone regions.
Earlier, BoT governor Prof Benno Ndulu handed the President an award to recognise his contribution in strengthening the economy.
He also handed him 11 gold coins of different denominations which are not in circulation but were used in various events since the bank was established.
