Ewura: Doors open for public opinion on IPTL licence

What you need to know:

Speaking in Dar es Salaam on Friday, Ewura’s acting director for legal service Mr Edwin Kadifu said that so far they have received two objections via written emails.

Dar es Salaam. Energy and Water Utility Regulatory Authority (Ewura) has started receiving public opinion on the power production licence by the Independent Power Tanzania Ltd (IPTL).

Speaking in Dar es Salaam on Friday, Ewura’s acting director for legal service Mr Edwin Kadifu said that so far they have received two objections via written emails.

“We call on the public to exercise their right, and send us their views on whether to extend IPTL’s license or not, instead of using the media platforms to complain about the procedure which is legally based,’’ he said.

He said that, IPTL like any other company has the right to seek for operating license unless proved otherwise, and unless the public proves beyond reasonable doubt the company would be treated according to the law.

He said that so far IPTL has a power purchasing agreement contract with the utility firm Tanesco as well as an implementation contract with the government which both end in 2022.

However the company is seeking for extension of operating license which ends in June 2017.
