What you need to know:

The DCI's decision comes  after relatives of the deceased wrote to President  Magufuli asking him to intervene on the matter.

Moshi. The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mr Diwan Athuman has ordered a fresh probe at the investigation of the death of Mr James Massawe who was murdered in 2009.

The DCI's decision comes  after relatives of the deceased wrote to President  Magufuli asking him to intervene on the matter.

Mr Athuman told The Citizen today that he  has sent a team of investigators to Kilimanjaro to look into  the matter and called for all individuals  who witnessed the incident to give their cooperation.

“It is the will of my office to see this issue come to an end and what we need now is to have concrete evidence which will help us” he said adding:  “What we need most is  support from witnesses because the officers have already started working on the matter”.

In the letter the deceased's family wrote to the President, they claimed  that the police have been reluctant to arrest the suspects following the killing in 2009.

The family also stated that important documents, including statements by witnesses and deceased’s death report, have vanished during the investigation.
