According to a report by doctors at Tumbi Hospital in Kibaha, The Reverend Mtikila died after a hemorrhage in his respiratory system.
Kibaha. Democratic Party (DP) chairman Reverend Christopher Mtikila had eight ribs broken after a car crash on Sunday which caused bleeding in his respiratory system that led to his death, according to a doctor’s report.
According to the report by doctors at Tumbi Hospital in Kibaha, The Reverend Mtikila died after a hemorrhage in his respiratory system.
Coast regional police commander Jafari Mohamed told The Citizen yesterday that an autopsy on Mtikila’s body revealed that the broken ribs contributed to his instant death.
Commander Jafari said before the Msolwa accident the late Mtikila and three others left Dar es Salaam on October 2 in the evening for Njombe, where they arrived on October 3 in the early morning hours.
According to the RPC, the car in which Mtikila was travelling was first involved in an accident on October 3 in Njombe Region where traffic police officers advised them to take it for repair.
According to the RPC, police were still holding Mtikila’s driver George Steven for questioning.
Meanwhile, President Jakaya Kikwete has sent his condolence to the family of the Reverend Mtikila.
According to a statement issued by the State House directorate of communication, President Kikwete received the news of the Rev Mtikila’s demise with great sadness.
The President said the Reverend Mtikila’s death was a blow, not only to his family and party, but also to the entire country due to his contribution to Tanzania’s politics. Chadema national chairman Freeman Mbowe said Mtikila’s death was a blow for those who believe in positive reforms.
“The Rev Mtikila will be remembered for his unwavering stance on two major issues; the fight for the reintroduction of Tanganyika government and his long struggle for independent candidature in Tanzanian politics,” said Mbowe.
Residents of Dar es Salam will tomorrow (Wednesday) pay their last respects to the late politician at his Mikocheni B residence before the transportation of his body to Milo Village, Ludewa District in Njombe Region for burial on Thursday.
