Govt: Why "on call allowances" for Hydom staff are taxed

What you need to know:

Deputy Minister in the President's Office Regional Administration and Local Government, Josephat Kandege said the tax cuts on the call allowances were according the income tax law.

Dodoma. On call allowances for medical staff who were employed by the government but still work for Hydom Lutheran Hospital in Manyara Region, are taxed because the staff have been going to attend on- call duties during their own extra time.

Deputy Minister in the President's Office Regional Administration and Local Government, Josephat Kandege said the tax cuts on the call allowances were according the income tax law.

This was said in the National Assembly on Thursday February 1 when special seats MP Martha Umbulla asked a question, seeking to know why the medical staff allowances were being taxed in Hydom District while the workers are working in harsh conditions.

In response, the deputy minister, Kandege said that those medical staff who were employed by the Lutheran hospital directly are not taxed.
