Heavily armed cartel members overpowered security forces and freed the son of jailed drug kingpin Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman.
Security Minister Alfonso Durazo said decision was taken to withdraw to protect the lives of the forces and restore calm in the city.
Ovidio Guzman is one of the sons who assumed partial control of the notorious cartel run by their father until he was extradited to the United States in 2017.
