Jatu Plc director's arraignment set for March 27

Dar es Salaam. The preliminary hearing of a case involving JATU Plc director Peter Gasaya has been set for March 27 after investigation involving alleged acquisition of Sh5.1 billion through falsehood was completed, the court has said.

Mr Gasaya is accused of acquiring the money from JATU Saccos on grounds that the money would be used as seeds that after being sown will generate profit.

The Court was told that Mr Gasaya issued the statement while knowing that it was false.

State Attorney, Mr Jaribu Bahati told the Chief Resident Magistrate Mary Mrio at Kisutu Resident Magistrate Court when the case came for mentioning that the date should be issued for the PH.


Magistrate Urio adjourned the case until Monday, March 27, 2023, when the PH will be read.


The suspect is represented by Mr Nafikire Mwambona and Mr Kung'e Wabeya.


On Monday, the suspect failed to physically appear at the court, instead the case was presided over by a video conference.


The suspect has remained in Remand Prison after failing to meet bail conditions that include submitting Sh2.6 billion or non-transferrable properties of its equivalent.

Other conditions include submitting two sureties who are residents of Dar es Salaam who will sign Sh2.6 billion bond as well as recognition letters from Local Government Authorities (LGAs).


The suspect was first arranged at the Kisuru Resident Magistrate Court on December 29, 2022 facing the above charges.

Being the company’s executive director, Mr Gasaya is claimed to have secure Sh5, 139,865,733 from JATU Saccos between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2021.

He is accused of getting the money from JATU Saccos claiming that the money would be sown in order to generate profits, while knowing it wasn’t true.
