Kairuki tells doctors to stop prescribing expired drugs

Dodoma. The Minister of State in the President’s Office (Regional Administration and Local Governments), Ms Angela Kairuki yesterday instructed regional and district medical officers to conduct regular checks of medicines to avoid dispensing of expired medicines to patients.

Ms Kairuki issued the order as she closed a three-day meeting of the regional and district medical officers.

She said it is the responsibility of doctors to protect the health of the people and it is concerning when some health care providers allow in their centre drugs that have expired.

She said the government will be monitoring the doctors, and will continuous support in health care provisions whenever needed.

“Information regarding the implementation of the nutrition agreement also show a state of dissatisfaction with the nutrition services,” said Ms Kairuki.

The minister stressed the need for encouraging use of Community Health Insurance (CHF). She also warned about the increasing use of abusive language by the health workers to patients.
