Kenyan woman’s drug case fails to begin

The evidence in question

What you need to know:

The lawyers opposed  the judge’s decision to deny former head of forensic investigations at the Chief Government Chemist, Ms Bertha Mamuya the right to use the seized drugs as exhibit.

Dar es Salaam. The impending trial in well known drug trafficking case involving Kenyan Mwanaidi Mfundo and eight Tanzanians could not start as lawyers sought intervention by the highest court.

The lawyers opposed  the judge’s decision to deny former head of forensic investigations at the Chief Government Chemist, Ms Bertha Mamuya the right to use the seized drugs as exhibit.

The prosecution maintained that no one was qualified to tender the narcotics as exhibits in court than Ms Mamuya as she was the one who conducted the laboratory tests.

The accused were arrested in June 2011 at Dar es ASalaam’s Mbezi Beach suburbs possessing over 2 kilograms of heroin and cocaine worth Sh149 million.

Other accused are Tanzanians Sarah Munuo, Aisha Kungwi, Almasi Saidi, Yahya Ibrahim, Rajab Mzome and John William and Kenyans Anthony Karanja and Ben Macharia.
