Law enforcer kills house help

Police Constable Joel Francis brutally beat to death Mr Donald Magalata, 30, using a stick after the latter failed to give the constable an answer regarding where his wallet was.

Mwanza. A police constable here has beaten to death his house help after his wallet which he had left at his home before attending his duties went missing.

Police Constable Joel Francis brutally beat to death Mr Donald Magalata, 30, using a stick after the latter failed to give the constable an answer regarding where his wallet was.

Mwanza regional police commander (RPC) Justus Kamugisha confirmed the incident which he said took place at Mabatini police line in Nyamagana District during the New Year day.

According to him, the deceased had gone to assist the constable with house chores but when the constable returned from work he found his wallet, which contained - among others - an Automated Teller Machines (ATM) card and his job identity card. He added that the deceased was a long time friend of Constable Joel.

“PC Joel arrived from work and found Mr Magalata at his police line residence, but on realizing that his wallet containing his two ATM cards and his job identity card was missing, he began quarreling with the deceased,” he said.

He said PC Joel locked the deceased in his house and handcuffed his legs before he started beating him mercilessly while demanding his wallet from him.

While being beaten, the deceased yelled for help and the neighbours (police officers) intervened and rescued him from the war he was encountering.

He added that the rescuers arrived at the scene and found the deceased in a terrible condition from the injuries he had succumbed from the beatings.

“The deceased was found in a comma and those who rescued him had to rush him to Bugando Medical Center where he died the following day while receiving treatment,” he said.

He said that police is holding PC Francis for more interrogation.

Recently here, Police Constable Daudi Masunga shot PC Petro Matiko to dead before he turned his gun and shot himself dead.

The tragedy happened at Tanzania Postal Bank (TPB) Mwanza branch along Pamba road where the two were on duty guarding the public financial institution.

But PC Matiko was not on duty that day, he had visited the bank to draw some money and found the bank’s system network not working, reports which were confirmed by Mwanza RPC.

However, the police boss said that the police  boss said that the police force could not be blamed for any misconduct that is exhibited by police officers.
