Dodoma. After a long period of silence, former Chadema national chairman Freeman Mbowe made a rare public appearance on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at the launch of Tanzania’s Vision 2025–2050 held at the Jakaya Kikwete Convention Centre in Dodoma.

Mbowe, who lost the party’s top post to Tundu Lissu in the January 2025 internal elections, has kept a low profile, reportedly focusing on private business and family matters.

His attendance at the high-profile event that is graced by President Samia Suluhu Hassan and attended by leaders from across the political spectrum marked only his second public appearance since stepping down.

At Thursday’s event, Mbowe was seated near chairperson of the CCM Women’s Wing, Ms Mary Chatanda, among other political party leaders. Upon arrival, he exchanged brief greetings with a few leaders before taking his seat, where he was later seen engrossed in his mobile phone for most of the session.
