MCL, Institute of Directors in Tanzania enter RWI partnership

MCL's managing director Mr Bakari Machumu and IoDT's chief executive officer Mr Said Kambi exchange documents

Dar es Salaam. Mwananchi Communications Limited (MCL) has entered into a partnership with the Institute of Directors in Tanzania (IoDT) that aims to develop the Rising Woman Initiative (RWI) beyond an annual event to become daily event through its digital platforms.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between MCL managing director Mr. Bakari Machumu and IoDT chief executive officer Mr. Said Kambi, through the initiative women will get the opportunity to be mentored, coached, and counselled.

Under the platform, the RWI will now gather women in groups and exchange opportunities and build leadership skills so that they can overcome various challenges they facing in leadership and business.

Initially, the RWI was only held from February to March annually, but due to popular demand from people who want to know what follows after reaching the climax, MCL has decided to come up with the idea of continuing to engage women through its digital platforms.

"Our collaboration is aimed at taking the initiative to the next level beyond doing it on a monthly basis in February and March; now it’s going to become a daily thing by taking it to digital, whereby women will network and come together all the time to exchange unique ideas and experiences, "said Mr. Machumu.

According to him, by bringing the IoDT on board, they will become experts in training, leadership skills, mentorship, and coaching, and the platform will become a teaching tool for women in different areas.

For his part, Mr. Kambi said leadership is something that comes automatically and could be born with it, but it can also be learned.

Mr. Kambi added that the rising woman initiative was to get outside of corporate leadership and go down to ordinary women to give them an opportunity to grow.

"Our role in this partnership is to complement what has been done by assisting these women in three areas, including coaching, mentoring, andcounseling," he said.
