Mbeya. Mixx, one of Tanzania’s leading mobile financial services providers, has rolled out its “Kila Hatua Mixx” campaign to the Southern Highlands, aiming to accelerate digital inclusion and broaden access to financial services in one of the country’s most important economic regions.

The launch in Mbeya on Tuesday marked a significant milestone for the company as it seeks to deepen its footprint in an area widely recognized as Tanzania’s breadbasket, a trade gateway to Southern Africa, and a hub for agriculture, transport, and fast-growing entrepreneurship.

Speaking at the event, Abbas Abdurahamani, Southern Highlands Regional Director for Yas, emphasized the region’s economic importance and Mixx’s commitment to empowering local communities.

“This region is Tanzania's growth engine connecting farmers, businesses, and regional markets,” he said. “Launching Kila Hatua Mixx here in Mbeya demonstrates our commitment to innovation and to delivering financial solutions that directly address local challenges. We will continue to work closely with partners to drive digital transformation and inclusive growth.”

Mixx has already established a strong national presence with more than 20 million users conducting transactions valued at TSh 6 trillion every month. The company works with over 200,000 agents across the country, providing indirect employment to thousands of young people, while more than 500,000 merchants currently accept digital payments through its platforms. In addition, over 3,000 institutions rely on Mixx for large-scale collections and disbursements.

The company’s financial solutions have also enabled over six million customers to access loans worth more than TSh 1 trillion, while helping users save over TSh 600 billion through digital tools.

Among the key services promoted under the campaign are Bustisha, which offers small short-term loans to ensure transactions run smoothly; NivushePlus, an instant loan facility for emergencies or business capital; Kibubu, a digital savings tool for long-term goals; and Lipa kwa Simu, a secure payment service for businesses of all sizes.

James Sumari, Mixx’s Director of Business, said the Southern Highlands was a natural choice for expansion given its dynamic entrepreneurial culture.

“This is a bold and dynamic market—whether for farmers or small business owners,” he said. “Our services are designed to empower these communities to grow their enterprises, expand capital, and participate fully in the digital economy. Mixx is not just a financial service provider but a trusted partner to every Tanzanian striving for economic prosperity.”

With investments in fast, secure, and easy-to-use platforms, Mixx said it is determined to ensure that farmers, SMEs, and institutions in Mbeya, Njombe, Ruvuma, Rukwa, and Katavi enjoy equal access to digital financial opportunities on par with those available in major cities.

The company believes this expansion reaffirms its long-term commitment to supporting every level of the economy—from small-scale traders to high-value investors—while playing a central role in driving Tanzania’s digital economic transformation.
