Monduli constituency experiences low turnout

Monduli. The turn up of voters at Msakwini ward in Monduli District where a parliamentary by-election is taking place is extremely low compared to other wards.

Speaking to The Citizen, a resident of the area, Mr John Lweswanduku, said that he woke up early to vote for a legislator of his choice before head off the church.

"Though there is a low turnout, it is still too early to make conclusions. A lot of people have gone to church, so we expect them to come to polling stations later,” he said.

Arusha CCM secretary Shabani Mdoe, speaking at Mto wa Mbu, said that people have turned in a big numbers to vote for a leader of their choice.

“So far the exercise is going on well, there are no hiccups. All facilities needed for voting are available and political agents of all political parties are supervising the exercise,” he said.

The Monduli constituency has 20 wards and 256 voting stations and a total of 80,272 voters.

Those vying for the legislation seat include Julius Kalanga (CCM), Yonas Laizer (Chadema), Wilfred Mlay (ACT-Wazalendo), Elizabeth Salewa (AFP), Simon Ngilisho (Demokrasia Makini), Omary Kawaga (DP), Francis Ringo (Ada Tadea) and Feruzi Juma (NRA).
