MV Mapinduzi assistant engineer hangs himself while sailing

Unguja.  An assistant engineer of the MV Mapiduzi identified as Abdalla Khatib (55) today hanged himself while the vessel was on its way from Unguja to Pemba.

Ministry of communication and works Permanent secretary Mr Mustafa Aboud confirmed on Monday, July 22 that the deceased committed suicide in the technician’s room, the place where he normally perform his duties.

‘I was informed about the incident when the boats decided to suspend its trip to Pemba,” the minister said.

‘’ The deceased was working as an engineer and the nation has lost an important person in this sector,” he said.

Mr Khatib noted the police force has started investigation to identify the motives behind the suicide.
