Mystery as 3 bodies found in Hai

What you need to know:

  • Bodies of three young men were spotted close to a place where prominent gem dealer Msuya was gunned down in August 2013
  • In his sermon Bishop Akyo spoke strongly against ill acquired wealth. “Why should you kill simply because you want to become rich? Why should people offer sacrifices in superstitious beliefs to acquire wealth? Those who engage in such things never get peace,” Bishop Akyo noted in a long sermon. The deceased who owned businesses and property including the SG Resort Hotel in Arusha city was sprayed with 20 bullets off the Arusha-Moshi highway. This was during the burial service of Erasto Msuya in August, 2013.

Moshi. Three bodies of young men were yesterday found at Mijohoroni in Hai District, Kilimanjaro Region.

The three young men, aged between 25 and 30, are suspected to have been killed elsewhere and their bodies ferried and dumped at the area.

Hundreds of people who turned out to see the bodies raised concern on the state of security in the country wondering who could have carried out the killings.

One eye witness at the area told The Citizen that the three were smartly dressed.

The bodies were found close to the spot where prominent businessman and popular gemstone dealer Erasto Msuya was shot dead in August, 2013. The three bodies were spotted by Maasai herders as they grazed their animals.

Another eye witness, Mr Gilbert Kiondo, told The Citizen that it seemed the three were killed elsewhere and dumped at Mijohoroni.

“There was nothing indicating that there was any sort of resistance from the victims at the place they were found, leading to the conclusion that the killing did not take place there,” he said.

One officer, who declined to be named because he is not authorised to speak on behalf of the police, said investigations would help to reveal the killers even though there was no one known to have witnessed the killing or dumping of bodies.

“No one witnessed these people being killed or dumped. Their faces are unfamiliar to residents here,” he said.

Until yesterday, the three bodies were yet to be identified.

“We want to establish where these three were killed, who killed their motive,” said the officer.

However, he hinted that there was a possibility that this was a revenge killing or a misunderstandig on some business deal.

Regional police commander Geofrey Kamwela could not be reached immediately to comment on the matter.

Moreover, Police had a hard time extra task stopping wananchi from taking photos with their smart phones.

One  Sebastian Shao said Police were being unfair by stopping them from taking photos. “We want to take photos and spread them in social media so that people who know these victims can come forward to identify them,” he said, saying the world has changed and it was important for the police to subscribe to new trends.
