Dar es Salaam. The National Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NACTVET) has warned colleges against providing admission information to applicants contrary to the procedures under the Central Admission System (CAS) which mandates only the council to announce admission results.

The council’s heads noted on July 11, 2023 that the challenge was one of those that it has been grappling with during the first application window for 2023/24 academic year.

Other setbacks involved some applicants missing out on admissions due to ignorance to go through the criteria available on the council's website while others failed to complete their applications.

"There have been several colleges that have been congratulating applicants for being selected to join the institutions before the official announcement by the Council,” said Examination and Certification Manager at NACTVET, Mr Twaha Twaha.

“We have already taken action against those colleges and are cautioning all other institutions to adhere to the existing procedures," he added.

He was speaking when the council announced the opening of the second phase of the application window which is open from today until August 8, 2023.

NACTVET coordinated the admission of students in various health and allied sciences courses through CAS for the academic year 2023/24 where a total of 24,007 applicants submitted their applications while 22,279 of them completed their applications by choosing the colleges and programs they liked.

Out of the total, 20,234 applicants had qualifications in the programs they applied for and a total of 2,034 applicants did not have qualifications in the programs. However, those who failed to qualify in the programme they applied for have the opportunity to reapply for another programme out of the 12 available.

A total of 15,833 applicants were selected to join 219 colleges that offer various health and allied science programmes where 8,248 (52 percent) are women and 7,585 (48 percent) men. A total of 2,868 applicants were selected in 48 government colleges and 12,965 applicants in 171 non-government colleges.

"Qualified applicants who were not selected due to competition in the programmes and are advised to apply to join programmes and colleges that have space in the second phase window," said Dr Marcelina Baitilwake, Director of Admission, Examination and Certification.
