NEC pulls in large numbers at trade fair

Dar es Salaam. The National Electoral Commission (NECT) was one of the most visited pavilions during the just concluded Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF).
Speaking to The Citizen, NEC Information and Voter Education Officer, Ms Giveness Aswile, said that people were concerned about two issues, NEC independence and integrity, and the difference between Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar elections.
She also said that during the 11 days of exhibition, they received a lot of people who have lost their voter’s cards and were looking to replace them.
According to Ms Aswile, they also received numerous accusations from citizens who were of the view that NEC was not an independent body and did manage the 2015/16 General Elections in a transparant manner.
