Dodoma. As the world prepares to celebrate World Environment Day on June 5, 2025, the National Environment Management Council (NEMC) is calling on Tanzanians to control plastic usage by reducing, reusing, and recycling plastic products to stimulate a circular economy.

Speaking during the ongoing World Environment Day exhibitions held from June 1 to June 5, 2025, at the Jakaya Kikwete Grounds in Dodoma, NEMC’s Central Zone Acting Manager, Mr Novatus Mushi, emphasized that the Council continues to educate the public through these commemorations.

The focus is on promoting a circular economy that unlocks opportunities within plastic waste and highlights the responsibility of every citizen in waste management.

The theme for World Environment Day 2025 is “Our Environment and Tanzania’s Future; Let’s Act Now, Control Plastic Pollution.” The official celebration will peak on June 5, with the guest of honor expected to be the President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

Visitors to the NEMC exhibition booth are receiving valuable information from Council officers about plastic waste control and the opportunities it presents.

The Council is also educating the public on the importance of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), guidelines for compliance and enforcement of environmental laws, and best practices for biodiversity conservation to promote sustainable development in Tanzania.
