Readers applaud ‘The Citizen’

Arusha. Scores of stakeholders in the business and marketing sectors and tourism yesterday lauded The Citizen for informing the public objectively and without fear or bias.
The executive secretary of the Tanzania Association of Tour Operators (Tato) Mr Sirili Akko, in his congratulatory message to the paper which attained ten years on Tuesday, said the paper has done a tremendous job.
“The Citizen has influenced policy decisions, informed the public and yet innovatively challenged the status quo”. The country’s youngest English daily, he said, had offered “priceless invaluable contribution” to the tourism industry.
Dr Brian Cooksey, the director of the Tanzania Development Research Group congratulated the paper for being consistent in public interest journalism “most recently by breaking the IPTL story.
“Congratulations for breaking the IPTL story and sticking to it despite intimidation by the perpetrators of the shameful crime”, he said in an e-mail texed to the Arusha bureau.
Andrew Muneja Sayi, a sports consultant based here lauded the paper for its educational series and other specialist pull-outs which catered for different clientele, including those in the entertainment sector.
“We salute the paper for the prompt comments which you receive from stakeholders, especially the sports family”, he stated, adding that he would remain the principal reader of The Citizen for the next 10 years.
The director of Horticulture Institute at Tengeru near Arusha, Mr Cornel Massawe, wished the paper a continued role of torch bearer on informing the public on the relevant issues which affect the Tanzanian society.
