Samia appoints new Simiyu RC and DCs

Dar es Salaam. President Samia Suluhu Hassan has withdrawn Dr Yahaya Nawanda's appointment as Simiyu Regional Commissioner (RC).

The revocation was revealed as part of of the changes she made to the regional administration line-up on Tuesday when she appointed new RCs and district commissioners.

A press statement issued on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, by the Acting Director of Presidential Communications, Sharifa Nyanga, stated that Dr Nawanda's vacant position will be filled by Kenani Kihongosi, who was the Momba DC.

Dr Nawanda has held the position since July 2022.

The newly appointed Simiyu RC Kihongosi has previously served as the DC of Urambo, Iramba and Arusha.

He has also been the Secretary-General of the National Youth Wing of the ruling party CCM (UVCCM) and the leader of the National Freedom Torch race.

President Hassan has also appointed Mr Elias Mwandobo as the DC of Momba.

Before this appointment, Mr Mwandobo was a senior officer in the President's office at the State House.

Besides, she named Mr Christopher Magala as the DC of Nanyumbu, replacing Mr Stephen Mwakajumilo whose appointment was also revoked.

Mr Mwakajumilo was appointed as the DC on September 23, 2023. Before the appointment, he was the chairman of CCM in Mbeya Region.

The head of state has appointed Mr George Herbert as the registrar of the Court of Appeal.

Before this appointment, he served as the deputy Registrar of the Court of Appeal.

“The swearing-in ceremony date for the regional commissioner and registrar of the Court of Appeal will be announced later,” the statement reads.
