Sethi: I haven’t met my wife in six months

Dar es Salaam. Harbinder Singh Sethi, who is accused of economic sabotage,has told the Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s court that he has not been able to meet his wife for six months now.
Sethi who is currently detained at the Ukonga prison, complained today, Thursday August 30, before Magistrate Huruma Shaidi.
He made the comment after State Attorney Mwanaamina Kimakono said in court that the case was brought for mentioning and that the investigation is not yet completed.
She also asked Magistrate Shaidi to adjourn the case to another date for mentioning.
Sethi’s advocate Dorah Mallaba said in court that they were yet to secure a permit to allow her client to meet his wife.
She also asked the court to offer him even five minutes to talk to his wife given that she (Sethi’s wife) was at the court.
However, Magistrate Shaidi said procedures for preserving inmates were under the Tanzania Prisons Service.
“If there is any issues you will have to bring them here at the court,” he said and adjourned the case to September13, when it will be brought for mentioning.
Sethi and his co-accused are facing 12 counts on economic sabotage by engaging in criminal syndicates, forgery, gaining money illegally, money laundering and causing the government a loss of Sh350 billion.
