Tanzania Immigration issues over 15,000 new electronic passports

This was revealed by Dar es Salaam regional Immigration officer Crispin Ngonyani when he spoke to reporters during the launch of the e-passports in Dar es Salaam Region on Friday.

Dar es Salaam. Tanzania’s Immigration Department on Friday, May 25, 2018 revealed that at least 15,101 new electronic passports have been issued since the new travel documents were launched in January, this year.

This was revealed by Dar es Salaam regional Immigration officer Crispin Ngonyani when he spoke to reporters during the launch of the e-passports in Dar es Salaam Region on Friday.

He further called on Dar residents to report to his office whenever they faced inconsistencies when applying for the passports.

"My office will not hesitate to take punitive measures against Immigration officials who will fail the government in issuing the passports," he said.

The launching ceremony, which was held at Mnazi Mmoja grounds in the city, was graced by Coast regional commissioner Evarist Ndikilo and was attended by immigration officials and stakeholders.

The guest of honour issued the new e- passports to a selected group of people during the launch ceremony.

Speaking after receiving her e-passport, Dar es Salaam regional administrative secretary (RAS) Theresia Mahongo stated: "It took me only two days to get my passport. Previously I could be forced to wait for at least seven days to get the passport. I commend the Immigration authorities for their comprehensive efforts to address challenges."
