Tarime. Campaigns in Tarime were riddled with chaos leading to injuries and forcing a returning officer to suspend some of the rallies.
In one of the incidents a former Chadema Youth chairman in Sirari Ward, Weng’ari Mang’era has been injured in politically connected acid splash incident.
He was splashed with acid during the welcoming of Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) parliamentary aspirant in Tarime Rural, Christopher Kangoye. Mang’era joined CCM recently after defecting from Chadema.
One of the witnesses, who did not want his name revealed for fear of reprisal, said as they were waiting for Mr waitara to arrive, a group of unidentified people arrived and they started to beat those who were at the rally.
The Tarime/Rorya Special Police Zone Commander, Lazaro Mambosasa confirmed the incident saying they have launched a manhunt as they continue with investigations of the incident.
At the same time the returning officer in Tarime District, Mr Athuman Akalama, was forced to suspend campaigns in Nyamongo following clashes between people believed to be CCM and Chadema supporters.
In the morning a councilor candidate in Matongo-Nyamongo ward, Mr Daud Itembe (CCM) failed to continue with his campaigns at Nyamongo stand area after a group of people interfered with the rally.
Some five people, including a journalist, were injured in different incident which occurred in Tarime town at CCM parliamentary candidate in Tarime Urban, Mr Michael Kembaki (CCM).
A nursing officer at Tarime hospital, Ms Rose Hosea said they started receiving many injured people at around 4pm. Most of them were treated and allowed to go home and those who were hospitalized are progressing well.
She named some of those who were injured in different incidents as Wiboga Waryoba, 37, Busiro Rhob, 28, a Sahara Media journalist, Mr George Mtemi Nyanda, 49, and Lucas Wambura, a resident of Tarime.
