Two reported dead after hit by rapid bus

Two passengers have been reported dead and a rider injured after a bodaboda which they were traveling with hit by the rapid bus.

Dar es Salaam. A bodaboda driver and passenger were reported dead after been hit by the passer bus, after crossing into the unauthorized rapid bus transit corridor.

The incident occurred at Manzese area in Ubungo district.

The acting Dar es Salaam regional police commander Mr Elisha Saenda told The Citizen that the fatal accident occurred on Saturday night, after a bodaboda driver crossing into BRT corridor which is only used by designated buses.

The commissioner confirmed that the driver was carrying two passengers crossed into BRT corridor, before been hit by the bus which was being driven on high speed.

“Two people, a female and male died on the spot while the rider was injured,” he said.

“After the accident, some bodaboda drivers who were near the scene started throwing stones to the bus, which caused damage including breaking the mirrors and wind screen. This is what I have by now,” he told The Citizen.

The Udart public relations manager Mr Deus Bugaywa  said that was a police case as they were continuing to follow closely the proceeding of an incident.
