Vodacom Tanzania promotes unity and generosity through nationwide Iftar gatherings

As the sacred month of Ramadhan unfolds, bringing with it a spirit of reflection, generosity and togetherness, Vodacom Tanzania PLC has once again reaffirmed its commitment to community engagement by organizing Iftar dinners across the country.

From the bustling city streets of Dar es Salaam to the serene landscapes of Singida, Kigoma, Tanga, Dodoma, Zanzibar, Morogoro and even an orphanage center in Songea, Ruvuma, the company hosted over 6,000 participants in a heartfelt celebration of faith, unity and giving back.

Ramadhan is a time of spiritual renewal, but it is also a season of connection—where families, friends, and communities come together to break their fasts and strengthen their bonds.

Recognizing the importance of fostering these connections, Vodacom Tanzania joined the Muslim community, ensuring that the values of peace, love, and unity were celebrated widely. The company organized Iftar gatherings bringing together the wider community, its stakeholders, religious leaders, government officials, and customers, thereby extending an opportunity to commune and share in the blessings of the holy month.

For Vodacom, this initiative was more than just providing meals—it was about reinforcing a culture of inclusivity, respect, and togetherness. In each region, attendees gathered to reflect on the essence of Ramadhan, engage in meaningful conversations, and strengthen relationships beyond business and corporate engagements.

The initiative showcased Vodacom’s purpose in action, which is centered on empowering people, not just through digital connectivity but also through genuine human connections.

Speaking about the initiative, Vodacom Tanzania’s Managing Director, Philip Besiimire, highlighted the importance of standing with the community during such a meaningful time. “At Vodacom, we believe in the power of connection—not just through technology but through human relationships.

Ramadhan is a time for generosity, unity and peace, and we are honored to celebrate this occasion alongside our customers, partners and communities. Through the iftar gatherings, we've had the opportunity to honor this holy month with our Muslim brothers and sisters, give back to the community, and foster a sense of togetherness.”

One of the most touching moments of Vodacom’s Ramadhan engagements was the iftar at an orphanage in Songea, Ruvuma, where the company hosted 80 children.

The joy and gratitude expressed by the children reinforced the true meaning of giving back during Ramadhan. Beyond providing meals, the initiative symbolized Vodacom’s ongoing efforts to support the most vulnerable groups in society.

On his side, the company’s Director of IT and Billing, Athumani Mlinga hinted that by hosting iftar events across multiple regions, Vodacom Tanzania demonstrated that corporate leadership goes beyond profits—it’s about making a difference in people’s lives.

The company’s commitment to social responsibility has been evident through various initiatives, including education programs, digital inclusion projects, and financial empowerment efforts. The Ramadhan iftar gatherings serve as yet another example of how Vodacom integrates its mission of connecting for a better future into its corporate culture.

“The impact of these gatherings goes beyond the momentary act of sharing a meal. It strengthens relationships, fosters mutual understanding, and promotes unity within communities. Ramadhan is a time to reflect on values that transcend religious and cultural boundaries—kindness, generosity, and compassion,” he said while adding that through initiatives like these, Vodacom Tanzania continues to play a role in strengthening these values and ensuring they are upheld across different regions of the country.

As Ramadhan draws to a close, the message remains clear: giving back, fostering unity, and spreading love are values that enrich society. Vodacom Tanzania’s continued efforts to touch lives through meaningful initiatives show that true success is not only measured in business achievements but also in the positive impact made in the hearts of people.

The company used the iftar in Zanzibar led by President Hussein Ali Mwinyi to launch the Amini Ni Mimi initiative, that will provide life-saving open-heart surgeries for children living with congenital heart diseases in Zanzibar.

The surgeries will take place at the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute in Dar es Salaam, where the telco will cover the remaining costs of the procedure not funded by the government.

"This Ramadhan, we reaffirm our commitment to driving real change, nurturing a world where everyone has the chance to grow, connect, and prosper.

Through the Amini Ni Mimi Initiative, we will fund 30 percent of surgical costs for 50 Zanzibari children annually—lifting the burden from families and restoring hope for the future,” concluded Besiimire during the iftar gathering held in Unguja.
