Mwanza. The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Camilius Wambura, has said that abandoning business as usual, embracing flexibility, and upholding ethical standards will position Tanzania's police force among the best in the world.

The Tanzania police chief made the statement on Friday, May 24, 2024, while awarding medals to police officers and inspectors from the Lake Zone regions.

He emphasised the imperative of thoroughly analysing and implementing the recommendations put forth by the Criminal Justice Commission, ensuring their application permeates to the grassroots level.

"The implementation shouldn't remain confined to the district level; rather, it should trickle down to the police stations at the ward level," he said.

The event, which was well attended by hundreds of officers and civilians, took place at the Mabatini Police Field in Mwanza.

During the event, 5,607 officers and inspectors were honoured with the Tanganyika and Zanzibar Union Memorial Medal, the Long-Service Medal, and the National Long-Service and Discipline Medal.

Mwanza Regional Police Commander (RPC), Wilbroad Mutafungwa, said the medals will not only boost morale but also increase responsibility in supervising executives and achieving their goals.

He highlighted the importance of continuing to recognise long-serving police officers.
