Youth in Tanzania benefit from technical and entrepreneurial training

Arusha. A total of 200 young people from four regions in the country have benefited from technical and entrepreneurial training, funded by the German Development Agency (GIZ) through the Youth Skills and Employment for Development (E4D) program.

This was stated in Arusha by the Project Manager of the organization, Mr Faustine Msangira, while speaking at a meeting of representatives from solar companies in Tanzania who are members of TAREA.

Msangira stated that the organization has provided funding to these young people from Shinyanga, Simiyu, Manyara, and Geita regions based on the needs of solar companies for skilled youth in the field of renewable energy.

He explained that the training is provided to these young people through a project implemented by the organization to promote skills and employment for youth in Tanzania. The project is funded by the European Union (EU) in collaboration with the German government (GIZ) under the Solar Project, which is implemented in partnership with TAREA.

"These trainings greatly help our young people become self-employed upon completion, as we provide them with tools and equipment for self-employment. We have selected only 200 exemplary young people for now, but in the second phase, we will increase the number of beneficiaries as we received a large number of applications," he said.

Furthermore, he emphasized that the response from women participating in the technical training has been significant, with women comprising 40% of the participants, while male participants make up 60%. This is great encouragement for women to engage in technical fields overall.

On his part, Abdul Mgana, the Executive Secretary of TAREA in the northern region, stated that the E4D project has greatly helped a large number of young people secure employment and even start their own businesses in the renewable energy sector after being provided with tools and equipment upon completing the training.

Mgana expressed a request for the organization to continue assisting more young people by providing them with training, as there is still a high demand for young people to acquire these skills in the renewable energy sector in order to address the employment challenges.
