Kigoma. Addressing Kigoma residents during his two-day official tour of the region on Monday, President Kikwete said Mr Zitto was key witness on  his visits to the Far East to ask for funds for the construction of the region’s road network and a bridge over Malagarasi River.

The lack of a bridge  cut-off road transport between Kigoma Region on the shores of Lake Tanganyika and the country’s eastern regions.

“Since Mr Zitto made a lot of noise in Parliament, I decided to invite him to join me in my trips abroad to Japan, China and South Korea,”  the President said adding:

President Kikwete said he started taking efforts to build the bridge when he was Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation with help from South Korea.

“I am grateful that the construction of the bridge has been completion during my 10-year leadership tenure,” said Kikwete.

He added: “Construction of roads that are not completed will be completed by Magufuli after he succeeds me."

The President also appealed to Kigoma residents to be patient while  construction of a water project funded by the European Union is taking place.

He said implementation of the Euro 15 million water project stalled after the contractor had experienced some problems. The project was scheduled to be completed this year.
