Dates set for third edition of Lugalo Ladies Open

Dar es Salaam. The third edition of the Lugalo Ladies Open will tee off on June 29 to 30 at the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF)’s Lugalo Golf Club course.

The event is expected to feature top golfers in the Tanzania Mainland including Neema Olomi, Madina Iddi, Hawa Wanyeche, Vicky Elias, and many others.

Speaking to The Citizen yesterday, Lugalo Golf Club lady captain Angel Eaton said they are currently in preparations for one of the top three big golf events in the country.

Eaton explained that the 36 holes stroke play is expected to be most thrilling as it will add some points to the women’s golf rankings.

She said they need at least Sh25 million to stage the event and called on all golf stakeholders to support them.

“We are in preparations and we need that money (Sh25 million) to properly stage the event,” said Eaton.

In last year’s edition, Arusha Gymkhana Club golfer Neema Olomi won the event, having managed to record a total gross of 156 from two rounds, leading with a gross of 77 on day one and 79 on day two in the tournament that featured more than 120 golfers.

She took home a trophy and prepaid card worth Sh500,000 from the event’s main sponsor, Exim Bank.

The event saw Lugalo golfer Hawa Wanyeche emerge the runner-up with a total gross of 161. The handicap five-star managed a gross of 82 on day one and 79 on day two.

Another Lugalo lady golfer, Victoria Elias, finished third with a total gross of 167 (80, 87).

The event also saw Sabrina Juma win the junior category, Khadija Selemani win longest driver, and Letisia Kapalila emerged at the top in nearest to pin.

Yvonne Ondari emerged the best 18-net winner for day one, and Jazila Daniel was declared the best 18-net winner for day two of the competition.

In the bronze category, Ruth Peter was triumphant after collecting 142 net, followed by Adrie Brown (143) and Letisia Kapalali, who garnered 145 net. Also on the list of winners are Khadija Seleman, who topped the silver category after recording 146 strokes.
