What you need to know:

  • Sulley Muntari and Kevin-Prince Boateng were indefinitely suspended from the World Cup team for disciplinary reasons by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) early Thursday.
  • World Cup accreditations for both players have been withdrawn.

Brasilia, Brazil. Yesterday, the Black Stars refused to play till they got paid - and their government obliged, chartering a plane to shuttle over $3m in cash to Brazil.

Yet it seems the worst isn’t yet behind them because later today, Ghana will have to go into a decisive match with Portugal without two of its best players.

Sulley Muntari and Kevin-Prince Boateng were indefinitely suspended from the World Cup team for disciplinary reasons by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) early Thursday.

Utility man Boateng, 27, who plays for Schalke 04, was ejected from the Ghana squad for getting into a shouting match with coach Kwesi Appiah, according to local reporters.

In a statement on its website, GFA accuses Boateng of “vulgar verbal insults targeted at coach Kwesi Appiah during the team’s training session in Maceio this week.”

On the other hand, AC Milan midfielder Muntari, 29, allegedly assaulted a member of the GAF’s executive committee during a meeting on Tuesday.

World Cup accreditations for both players have been withdrawn.
