Dar es Salaam. One of Tanzania’s leading swimming clubs, Bluefins Swimming Club, is set to field a strong team of 31 swimmers in the FK Blue Marlins Invitational Gala, scheduled to take place on May 10 and 11, 2025, at FK Secondary School in Dar es Salaam.

Speaking on May 9, 2025, the club’s founder and head coach, Rahim Alidina, said the team will consist of 11 female and 20 male swimmers. He explained that while many of the swimmers are young and relatively inexperienced, the event offers a valuable opportunity for them to gain competitive experience.

“For some of our swimmers, this will be their first time participating in an official gala,” said Alidina. “However, we also have experienced swimmers who will be aiming to improve their performance and achieve new personal bests (PBs).”

He added that Bluefins swimmers will compete in a wide range of events across various age categories. The races will include 25 metres, 50 metres, 100 metres, and 200 metres in all four strokes—backstroke, freestyle, breaststroke, and butterfly. Additionally, they will participate in individual medley events and team relays in both freestyle and medley formats.

Alidina highlighted the significance of the gala as a stepping stone toward upcoming national competitions. “This event will serve as a great springboard for our young swimmers as they prepare and attempt to qualify for the National Junior Championships, which are expected to take place in June.”

The female swimmers representing Bluefins at the gala are Sakina Abdulali, Zahra Alibhai, Aaradhya Barmeda, Tasneem Huzeifa, Ayreen Lakhani, Kanzi Mussa, Amatullah Mustansir, Inaya Raheel, Anaya Shangvi, Maahira Noorani, and Irhaa Raheel.

The male team will comprise Burhanuddin Hatim, Cayden Barretto, Gulamabbas Dewji, Shuneal Bharwani, Burhanuddin Fazleabbas, Hassan Harunani, Adam Hassanali, Shabbir Hatim, Uzair Harunani, and Abbas Hemani.

Also listed in the squad are Burhanuddin Huzeifa, Mohammad Hussein Imran, Sahil Jaffer, Qais Kanji, Rayyan Kassam, Hayderali Khimji, Burhanuddin Yusuf, Kabeer Lakhani, Dev Maru, and Is-Haq Suleiman.

Coach Alidina expressed optimism about the team’s preparation and performance, stating, “We’re excited to see how our swimmers perform. Events like this help build confidence, sharpen skills, and lay the foundation for future success.”

The FK Blue Marlins Invitational Gala is expected to attract swimmers from several clubs, fostering competitive spirit and sportsmanship in Tanzania’s growing swimming community.
