Dar es Salaam. Former secretary general of the Zanzibar Football Federation (ZFF) Kassim Haji Salum has urged members of the general meeting of the body to elect president, whose goal will be to transform football on the Isles.
Apart from that, Salum also called on the members to elect a leader, who will match the pace of sports development under the eighth-phase government of President Hussein Ali Mwinyi.
The ZFF general meeting has been scheduled to take place tomorrow, whereby three candidates are vying for the top seat.
They are Suleiman Mahmoud Jabir, Kamal Abdul Satar Haji, and Juma Hassan Thabit.
Salum said currently Zanzibar has made a huge stride in football and sports development, and that this has been achieved because of the great contribution of President Mwinyi, other leaders of his government, and sports stakeholders.
Salum explained that all the candidates with a lot of experience in sports qualify to lead ZFF.
"In short, we need those leaders who can keep pace with the development of football, as is the case with the eighth phase government of Zanzibar.
“We need a leader with qualifications and desire to develop football and unite the stakeholders of other sports," said Salum.
"Let's not let President Mwinyi down, who has currently brought back enthusiasm and support for sports. We need to seize that opportunity by choosing the right leader," he said.
He said that Zanzibar has great talents, many of which have been lost due to a lack of support.
The three candidates have been okayed for election as there was no objection against them.
Previously, nine contestants had taken nomination forms, but seven aspirants managed to returned the forms.
After a scrutiny, four candidates were screened, including Abdullatif Ali Yasin, who was seeking re-election as ZFF president.
