Dar es Salaam. Zanzibar Football Association (ZFA) will hold its general meeting on Sunday, it has been revealed.
ZFA secretary general Kassim Haji Salum, said yesterday that, the meeting will dwell on various issues pertaining to football development in the Isles.
Salum said that failure by some officials of football associations and clubs to abide by the FIFA statues is one of the major factors behind the downward trend of soccer standards in Zanzibar.
He said that some officials have been taking sports issues to courts of law, a trend that frustrates ZFA’s efforts to turn around the Isles’ football fortunes.
The ZFA official said that some projects and coaching courses, including those organised by the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) and Confederation of African Football (CAF), were called off recently after some officials violated the rules and regulations governing the sport.
A few months ago, Caf threatened to bar Zanzibar teams from competing in competitions organised by the African football governing body after some officials took sports issues to court.
“Preparations for the meeting are on course,” the ZFA official said. He did not name the venue for the meeting.
